Following
the conviction
of your first DUI offense,
the court may order
that an ignition interlock
device be installed
on your vehicle. It
is installed into your
vehicle’s ignition
and contains a breathalyzer
attachment. Very simply,
you must breath into
the breathalyzer with
a BAC limit less than
.025 in order to start
your car.
The limit is very low,
less than a third of
the legal .08 limit.
In fact, authorities
advise drivers not to
eat or smoke before
attempting to start
their vehicles. It is
a device that seems
effective in concept,
but pales when you consider
that merely smoking
a cigarette or eating
too soon before you
start your car could
prevent you from “driving
under the influence”.
